Why let jet lag dull your glow?
TODAY ON THE #GEELIST, I'm SHARING all of the ways I BEAT JET LAG. LEARN my TOP TRICKS TO ACCLIMATING yourself on vacay and recommitting TO YOUR ROUTINE back home.
Pre-Travel Planning:
Before you travel, make sure you're packing the essentials you know you'll need to feel your best upon arriving at your destination. Whether that's your body tools for lymphatic drainage, your skincare tools to de-puff or simply your sneakers so you can get added steps in.
Eat Right:
We also try to eat quite light before flying as it can effect the digestion system and of course we drink lots of water (even more than usual!) to keep hydrated on the plane and once we land. It's easy to indulge while on a long-haul flight but eating lighter in-flight helps us grab some zzz's and lets us arrive feeling fresh and wide awake, ready to start the vacay!
Key Notes:
- Remember to hydrate!
- Pack your essentials (body tools, supplements, electrolytes)
- Embrace the change in routine
- Create a travel mantra - my go-to is "don't sweat the small stuff"
- stay present + enjoy!
Fresh things like cucumber, blueberries, dates and healthy chips are some of our go-to plane snacks.” - Celene Gee
Sleep 101:
The best thing you can do for yourself is to try to immedietely get on schedule wherever you're landing. Change the time on your phone and don't think about what time it is back home. If you're travelling and there's a substantial time change, try to avoid the nap (as tempting as it seems!), it will just prolong the jet lag period and keep you up at night.
If you do wake up at random times, avoid scrolling on your phone. Instead try doing a meditation, listening to calming music and making a cup of calming mint tea.
Gee tip: We pack our own tea bags and bring them with us. Not only does it bring us a piece of home while travelling but it also signals to your body it's time to wind down.
Stay Present:
We know while travelling we don't have total control over our routines and regimens like we do at home. Being flexible is key! Enjoy your surroundings, be present and try not to be so hard on yourself. Focus on the things you can control like your water intake and even pack with you some essentials that will help you feel your best like dry brushes, body paddles, meditations and more. Plus legs up the wall after a day full of walking feels so transformational!
Find Balance:
When you're coming back home after a trip, the trick is to find the balance of not putting pressure on yourself to get into a routine and retintroducing your routine. Some of us unpack right away (like me!) but others need more time to ease back into it. Give yourself a few days and do what's right for you.
If you have to go back to work straight away, don't feel pressure to home cook everyday. Grab some pre-made essentials at the grocery store and make it easier on yourself. If you know it takes more time for you to adjust, dont make plans right away and overcomitt. The last thing you want is to return from a relaxing holiday and instantly feel overwhelmed.
No Post-Vacay Blues Here!
Just because you're back on homesoil, doesn't mean the fun has to stop. Whether you're coming back from a European trip or girls weekend at the cotttage and you're feeling post-vacay blues, plan a dinner at a new restaurant, book a facial, or try a new workout. Take the energy and joy from your recent trip into your day to day plan something fun.
I always feel so inspired when I come home from a vacation. I love to make my own version of recipes that I enjoyed to keep the energy going!” - Celene Gee
Gee travel tip: travel delays happen and while we all wish they didn't, at a certain point we have to have some understanding and patience. use the extra time to get some work done, get your steps in around the airport or catch up on reading or your fave podcasts. Just remember to pack your essentials with you (chargers, medications, supplements, etc.) and you'll be good to go.
Safe travels!
xx Celene
