Beauty Lessons Learned

Beauty lessons learned.

In honor of Mother's Day, we're sharing lessons and beauty tips from our mother, Miriam Gee.

Our mother is a wealth of knowledge. Spanning from her career in beauty and fashion editorial to working alongside her at Gee Beauty, the learning never stops. Plus, the Gee Beauty team is sharing a few of the special beauty rituals they're passing down to their children. From us to you, Happy Mother's Day!

Miriam Gee:

I’ve always taught my girls that the way you present yourself - the self-care you take - is how you show up for yourself, and sets the tone for how you are perceived. Getting dressed in the morning for work, seeing clients - I’ve always believed in showing my respect for the people around me and that I value them. One of the ways I do this is my self-presentation, feeling polished gives me that added boost of confidence. Whether its from a lipstick application, a pair of heels or even the fact that I’ve been drinking my daily water intake, I feel good knowing I’m ready to give because I am taking care of myself. This has always been an important lesson to my girls.

Taking the time to care for yourself, both inside and out, is a form of self-respect, and shows others that you respect them and their time as well.” - Miriam Gee

Natalie Gee:

One of the most luxurious memories from when I was a little kid is waking up to my mother stretching my body. She would wake us up by stretching our legs, arms, moving our feet back and forth. To be honest it was something I forgot about as I went through younger adult years, but as a mother now I have the opportunity to pass this beautiful morning ritual to my children and to see the way it gently wakes them up and helps them enter their day a little more balanced and aligned. Peace and beauty from within.

The light stretching allows for a natural wake up and a refreshed and happy child before 7am!” - Natalie Gee
Celene Gee:

Both my parents are incredibly creative and visual. With my mother’s background in beauty and fashion editorial, we were always making “tears” out of magazines to bring our ideas and inspirations to life. We would make story-boards, scrap books and stories out of what we saw in print. I really do think this was the way I fell in love with design, with editorial, and the idea of studying graphic design in art school years later. I wanted to create, to design, to put images and copy together, and to become a creative director.

To this day when I have an idea I want to bring to life, I create a story-board, a mood, some inspiration and it allows my ideas to flourish. This is definitely because of mother’s creative influence.” - Celene Gee
Steph Gee:

Our mum always taught us the importance of getting ready for bed. We were shown how to wash and treat the skin of our face and our bodies (down to our feet) for a good nights rest.

I’ve always kept this with me and continue to make my nighttime beauty ritual so intentional.” - Steph Gee

One of the many things I've taught my 11 year old daughter is the importance of cleansing and moisturizing her skin. Each night we wash our faces together - it's our own special time that I look forward to everyday! Her go-to's are the Dr. Dennis Gross Hyaluronic Marine Meltaway Cleanser and the Moisture Cushion Moisturizer.” - Brīd Rennie

Whoever knows me, knows my 3 beautiful girls are everything to me. They, like their mother, are into beauty and wellness. Sundays are for masking and that is a routine we do on a regular basis. Depending on what my skin needs, I will use either Dr. Sebagh Rose De Vie Mask, Dr. Sebagh Deep Exfoliating Mask or the Joanna Czech Sheet Mask. My girls will set their skin for the week with either Dr. Sebagh Skin Perfecting Mask, Dr. Barbara Sturm Clarifying Mask or Phyto Corrective Mask by Skinceuticals. While we have these masks on, we sit and talk and talk and talk and I love these moments with them.” - Leda Cerkozi
Francine Di Lorenzo, Toronto Associate Medi-Manager
One of my favourite and I believe important things to do that my mother taught me is to moisturize from head to toe. After a bath or shower always apply face cream and body moisturizer and this will preserve your skin for life, it keeps it supple and healthy all day! Dr. Barbara Strum Body Cream is my favourite these days, so anti aging and light, it feels very luxurious every time I apply it!” - Francine Di Lorenzo
