WHAT IS RETINOL
Retinol is an exfoliate that is derived from Vitamin A to promote cell turnover and increase collagen production. Retinol, as an exfoliant, gently buffs the topical layers of skin to bring new, brighter and tighter skin to the surface. Retinol can significantly improve evenness in skin tones, soften fine lines and wrinkles, soften scarring in texture and tone and promote a healthy glow to the skin overall. Retinol formulas can range from serums to oil blends to best suit the needs of your skin. Depending on the brand and product, retinol is almost always described by percentage, ranging from 0.03%-1.0%. Retinol is the strongest form of a chemical exfoliant and should be added into a skincare routine strategically and over time. Retinol should only be used at night and should be avoided around the eyes, lips, and neck.
WHY NOW
After the age of 18, our skin stops producing new collagen on its own. Our role is to assist our skin's natural process of cell regeneration by adding certain ingredients into our skincare routine that can gently force this process. If you have not used retinol before, we suggest adding a blended retinol product into your evening routine, such as Dr. Sebagh's Retinol Night Repair, to see how your skin responds. Over time, as you condition the skin with higher and higher concentrations of retinol, your skin will show incredible results long term.
This time of year, in the fall & winter, is the perfect time to be using retinol because sun exposure is more minimal (excess sun while using retinol can cause irritation, sun burn and actually increase pigmentation & sun spots because the skin is sensitized while using this ingredient). More indoor time means more optimal time to help brighten the skin, lift sun spots and help stimulate cell turnover).
Using Retinol Reform has & will be on my skincare shelf forever. It gives the softest yet most powerful resurfacing to the skin that I see results immediately. Retinol refines the skin so you see less congested-looking skin on the daily.” - Natalie Gee
WHEN TO USE
It is best to use Retinol at night as that is when your skin has time to rest and repair. As with all active ingredients, start slow with 1-2 nights a week, and every week after, you can be consistent with a routine of 3-5x nights a week, depending on your skin's response.
The most important part of adding Retinol to your nighttime routine is to be consistent with Vitamin C and SPF in the daytime. By bringing this new, juicy collagen to the surface with Retinol, it is your responsibility to protect it during the day when the skin is exposed to UV rays and pollution.
HOW TO USE
Apply 1-2 pumps/drops of Retinol at night onto cleansed skin after toner (if toner is used). Use on your entire face (avoid eyes, lips, and neck) and then follow with hydrating serums, like a hyaluronic acid serum, and moisturizer. In the morning, ensure you are wearing a vitamin C serum & SPF to help protect the skin.
