Steph's Guide To Summer Hosting

Let's get together!

IN HONOR OF MY FAVORITE SEASON—AND BECAUSE IT BRINGS ME SO MUCH JOY TO HOST AND TO SHARE—I'VE ROUNDED UP MY PERFECT MIX OF THE RIGHT MUSIC, MOOD, LIGHTING, FLOWERS, AND FOOD TO CREATE THE PERFECT VIBE FOR HOSTING A BACKYARD BBQ AT HOME.

The design inspo:

Ever since my husband Julien and I moved into our house last summer, I've been so passionate about building a home environment where we can entertain and host our family and friends. We worked so hard on updating the backyard and leaned into the rustic, European feel and it's become the perfect space for entertaining.

We do all our summer hosting in the backyard, it's the perfect setting for a dinner party!” - Steph Gee
Set the menu:

First things first! When you're putting together a dinner party, you need to plan the menu. My husband Julien loves to make his famous dishes: Beef Tartare and Salmon Tartare. They're so fresh and make for the perfect appetizers. Since it's the summer, we are all about grilling! Burgers, chicken, veggies and fish are our favorites to grill.

We love to do our grocery shopping at Fiesta Farms and Costco for certain snacks and veggies so we have lots to go around when we host. If it's a Saturday evening we're hosting, I’ll try to get as much fresh produce from the Wychwood Farmers Market as I can. I love to support the incredible local farmers and bakers.

Let the music play:

Curating a playlist for any gathering is essential. For a summery backyard barbeque, I love to have soft music in the background to keep the mood but isn't overpowering.

My Go-To Hosting Playlist

Set the tone + table:

I love setting the table with cute homeware finds that I pick up. My favorite go-to's are 6 by Gee Beauty because I love Michelle's design eye, it's always so curated. I'm also slightly obsessed with HomeSense too, you just can't go wrong!

I love creating the mood and vibe with tealights and candles to make the backyard feel as charming and cozy as possible. There's something about mood lighting that makes guests feel comfortable and that's always the goal as a host.

My homeware faves!

Getting Ready:

Whenever you're hosting at home, it's all about comfort and being relaxed while still making it feel special. I like to keep my makeup look simple but polished and I like to do my brow + lash lifts to enhance my natural beauty, makes me feel fresh and takes me less time to get ready – I can put myself together in less than 10 minutes for a dinner party.

My essentials for getting ready are:

- Duo cleanse + buff
- X3 mist
- Multi prime
- Brightening concealer
- Pinkybeam
- Golden Glow Bronzer
- Multi mascara
- Babe lipliner
- Cece lipstick
