The Gee Guide To Staying Present

Taking time off this summer?

WHETHER YOU HAVE A TRIP PLANNED, A FEW DAYS OOO IN THE CITY OR A ROAD TRIP TO THE COTTAGE, WE'RE SHARING OUR GUIDE TO HOW WE UNPLUG AND STAY PRESENT IN THE MOMENT.

Embrace Nature

Nothing keeps us present more than being in nature. Walking or hiking a trail, swimming at the beach or even enjoying your neighbourhood park are great ways to be present in the moment. Regardless if you're in a faraway destination or enjoying a staycation, getting outside and even walking barefoot in the grass is so grounding and feels amazing and nourishing for the soul.

Keep a journal

To minimize how often you're using your phone, keep a journal and document all the things you're doing on your time away. Write down what you ate, where you went, who you met and any other interesting details that you'll want to remember someday! This journal will be so special when you stumble upon it years later and you can relive every single detail of your trip.

If handwriting in a journal just isn't for you, use your notes app! It's all about what works for you and if you feel like you're limiting yourself, you won't be giving yourself the peace of mind you deserve!

As a creative type, I find writing so theraputic and calming. I love documenting even the smallest details and even putting some keepsakes between the pages!” - Celene Gee
Plan around the sunrise/sunset

There's something almost magical feeling when taking in a gorgeous sunrise and sunset. Plan yoga at a park or even enjoy the view on the beach. Marveling at a gorgeous sky really puts things into perspective and reminds us that there is so much more out there.

Get moving!

A good workout is sure to keep you in the present moment. Try an immersive spin class, flowy yoga class, tennis lesson, or lifting weights at the hotel gym. Discovering new studios or gyms while on vacation is also a great way to meet new people.

Not only will you leave feeling incredible (hello, endorphins!) but all you can think about during a workout is what you're doing. It's the perfect way to clear your head and live presently.

Lean into wellness

Since you're on vacation, give yourself the gift of an extended skincare and bodycare routine without interruptions. That means it's "everything shower" time with all the accoutrements. Dry brush, body scrub, oils, creams, shave, hair mask, face mask, treatments, sheet masks, and more. This is YOUR time and it's important to let that sink in (literally!)

Whenever I have extra time, I love applying my serums and massaging them in to really stimulate, sculpt and lift. It feels so luxurious!” - Miriam Gee
Take a social break

When scrolling on Instagram, Tiktok, or any other social media, it's so easy to get wrapped in what other people are doing. Logging out is a great way to stay present and switch the focus onto you and your surroundings, especially on vacay.

Another way to minimize phone use is to leave your phone in your room so you're not tempted to take it out at dinner. It may feel strange at first but you'll feel so much more refreshed on your holiday!

If you're going the digital detox route, remember to reach out to family + friends to let them know so they don't worry when you go silent.

To avoid endless scrolling, I leave my phone in my bag during meal times instead of on the table so I'm not even tempted to check!” - Steph Gee

Gee Tip: If you aren't going full digital detox, stay more present by not posting photos to social media in real-time. Save your uploading for the end of the day so you can remain in the moment.

Here's to staying present! xx The Gees
