7 Essential Fall Skincare Swaps To Make

7 Essential Fall Skincare Swaps To Make
Written by

Welcome to skin week!

We're kicking off our annual skin week by sharing 7 of the most essential skincare swaps to make for fall/winter.

Sweater weather is officially here and as we bundle up more, we need to add a few extra products for extra hydration + protection into our skincare regimens. The cooler and drier air, coupled with indoor heating pull moisture from the skin but those days are over! Not sure where to start? That's what we're here for.

Join us all week long for Skin Week!

Stay In the know
Why swap products in the first place?

Our skin in the warmer months is different than it is during the cooler ones. Not only that but the air is different as well. In the summer, the air is much more humid whereas the winter air is dryer and the cold wind can cause increased dryness, inflammation and irritation. The lighter skincare products we wear in the summer simply don't give our skin enough hydration and nourishment that it needs during the change in season.

This doesn't mean creating an entirely new skincare routine either. Making a few select swaps can make all the difference in achieving your best skin throughout the seasons. Taking a seasonal approach to your skincare routine is the best way to keep your skin balanced, healthy, and happy all year round.

My fall + winter skincare routine is focused on nourishing, brightening and protecting the skin.

#1: Swap lighter moisturizers for thicker creams

Once the weather turns, swapping your summer moisturizer for a thicker, more emollient cream is first on your list. Keeping the skin ultra-hydrated during these cooler months with richer creams ensures the skin barrier is protected but also keeps the skin from getting inflamed, dry and irritated.

A cream that's rich in texture, deeply nourishing and has barrier protectors is the perfect moisturizer for the season.

#2: Layer with a face oil:

Take your hydration to the next level by sealing in your moisturizer with a face oil. Doubling up this way gives skin all the nourishment it needs but you'll be rewarded with a show-stopping glow - it's a win-win!

A few drops of Prime Beauty Oil mixed with Prime Skin is the key to my signature glow!

#3: Add an eye serum:

Take your under-eye hydration game to new heights by layering your eye cream with an eye serum. It may be an extra step but the return will certainly outweigh the effort! Simply apply your eye serum and follow it with your eye cream of choice. The result are luminous and awake-looking eyes!

Our best recommendations based on concern:

Dark Circles - try Shani Darden Intensive Eye Renewal + Agent Nateur Holi (Glow) Ageless Eye Serum
Puffiness - try Skinceuticals AOX Eye Gel + Dr. Sebagh Supreme Eye Serum
Anti-Aging - try Dr. Barbara Sturm Super Anti-Aging Eye Cream + Super Anti-Aging Eye Serum

Eye cream for me is a non-negotiable - my skincare routine doesn't feel complete without it!

#4: Try a hydrating cleanser:

A gel cleanser during the summer gave us the refreshing wash and deep cleanse that our skin needed. But, as we shift seasons, it's time to put the foaming cleansers to the side and opt for something richer, more hydrating and nourishing. Opt for cleansers that won't strip the skin of all moisture so anything that feels conditioning is exactly what we're looking for.

Our Melt Away cleanser is the perfect first cleanse - it removes makeup but still imparts hydration and nourishment to the skin.

#5: Add in a hydrating mask:

Fall weather can take its toll on our complexions so give your skin the tall drink of water it needs with a hydrating face mask. Face masks in the summer are always a treat but in the winter, they truly become a necessity. Hydrating masks deliver intense nourishment to the skin and can help with calming and soothing, especially after a day out in the elements.

When my skin really needs it, I love to apply a really thin layer of a mask and sleep with it on. I wake up with super hydrated + glowy skin!

#6: Don't forget a hydrating primer!

You've done all this work to increase hydration but it doesn't stop at skincare! A hydrating, creamy gel makeup primer like Multi Prime will make your skin a flawless makeup canvas for effortless application and staying power. Even add in a few drops of Beauty Oil + Liquid Glow to create your own combo.

#7 - Don't forget the lips & hands!

We all know how dry our lips and hands can get when a cold snap hits. Stay on top of your hydration by keeping your bag + even your car stocked with hydrating lip balms and hand creams. If your lips are feeling chapped, it's time for a lip scrub. Our Sugar Lip Scrub gently sloughs off dead and dry skin but it adds nourishment back in with Vitamin E and Shea.

Skincare doesn't stop at the face! The skin on our hands is just as important so give them the TLC they deserve by keeping them hydrated! We keep different hand creams in our bags, on our desks, and in our car so we're never without.

Our go-to lip balms? If we had to pick favorites, our go-to's are:

Miriam - Gee Beauty Smoothing Lip Balm mixed with Skinceuticals Antioxidant Lip Repair
Natalie - Dr. Sebagh Lip Balm (available in our new Gee Beauty x Dr. Sebagh Holiday Kits, coming soon!)
Celene - Gee Beauty Rose Lip Mask
Steph - Dr. Dennis Gross DermInfusion plump + repair lip treatment
