Founder Diaries: Inside Gee Beauty with Stephanie Gee

Founder Diaries: Inside Gee Beauty with Stephanie Gee

At Gee Beauty, our culture has always been about more than beauty; it’s about people.

Whether it’s our clients, our teams, or our community, connection is everything. I’ve learned that how you show up, for yourself and for others, defines the energy you bring into the room.

Over the years, I’ve collected a few HR truths that guide me as both a leader and a person. They’re lessons in professionalism, communication, and presence that reach far beyond the workplace.

1. In order to grow, you need systems.

Growth isn’t glamorous; it’s structured. I’ve learned that the only way to evolve sustainably is to build systems that support your team while keeping you accountable.

For me, organization and communication are forms of respect. When you have clear boundaries and realistic timelines, for example, taking a few days to respond thoughtfully instead of reacting immediately, you give everyone room to do their best work.

How to Bring It Into Your Day:

Create structure that supports you — block time for focus, plan ahead, and communicate timelines. The goal isn’t rigidity; it’s freedom through organization.

2. Be available.

One of the most powerful things a leader can do is simply be there. I try to create an environment where people feel comfortable reaching out — not out of obligation, but out of trust. The most impactful conversations often happen in those small, honest moments.

How to Bring It Into Your Day:

Be intentional with your presence. When someone’s speaking to you, pause and listen fully. Availability is about energy, not hours.

Being available isn’t about answering every message instantly; it’s about being present when it matters.

3. Always Be Building Relationships (ABR).

My personal mantra. Relationships are everything — they’re what make a business thrive and a culture feel alive.

Whether it’s checking in with someone I haven’t spoken to in a while or following up after an interview, I believe in staying connected. You never know when timing or opportunity will align.

How to Bring It Into Your Day:

Reach out to someone you haven’t spoken to in a while. A simple text or check-in goes a long way.

4. Communication is key.

The way you communicate sets the tone for every relationship — professional or personal. Be transparent about your process, clear in your expectations, and generous with gratitude. Communication creates trust, and trust creates connection.

How to Bring It Into Your Day:

Before sending your next message or email, take a moment to reread it through someone else’s eyes. Does it sound clear, kind, and complete? Communicating with intention, even in small exchanges, builds stronger relationships every day.

For me, it’s as simple as sending a follow-up email, saying thank you, or being honest about timing.

5. Professionalism is respect.

Whether it’s arriving on time, keeping your camera on in a meeting, or following up with gratitude, every small action adds up. I always remind myself that leadership is about making others better as a result of your presence, and ensuring that impact lasts in your absence.

How to Bring It Into Your Day:

Start by honoring the small details — be five minutes early, reply when you say you will, and give your full attention when someone’s speaking. These simple habits quietly communicate reliability and respect.
